Outdoor Archery in Lienz
Archery is a great sport suitable for the whole family and gives everyone the right mix of relaxation, concentration, fun and adventure. In Lienz where AdventureAustria is based, there are a choice of indoor and outdoor archery centres to choose from.
Archery is originally one of the oldest forms of hunting and ranks amongst one of the top precision sports. In fact since 1972 archery has been included as an Olympic sport. There are various types of bows with or without technical equipment, whereby self-made bows are also commonly used.
Different types of archery include target shooting, 3D shooting, distance shooting, mounted archery, Zen archery, therapeutic archery and archery hunting. Archery hunting with ‘live’ animals only exists in some countries of Western Europe and is strictly limited to what can be hunted. In many countries ‘live’ archery hunting is completely banned.
To have a go at archery for leisure and fun, visitors have a choice of indoor or outdoor archery centres. In Lienz there are two outdoor hunting courses, several archery target facilities and an indoor hall with adjacent archery shop – one of the biggest in Austria.

The hunting course close to Lienz is set in the countryside and stretches over 2km in length. With 28 “3D animal dummies” of rigid foam (deer, chamois, lynx, bear, foxes etc…), the facility is available throughout the year. The course takes between 2 and 2.5 hours to get around and costs € 30. Registration is required the day before at the Tourist Information Centre in Lienz or by contacting AdventureAustria. Private archery sessions complete with a guide are available anytime upon request, providing there is a minimum of 4 people.
