The following is a list of the most popular sights and attractions in Lienz.
Galitzenklamm – canyon and waterfall
Open during the summer months, the Galitzenklamm is a small gorge which over millions of years of erosion, has been carved into the mountain side. Follow a wooden walk way and experience the waterfalls from a unique perspective! Klettersteig (Via ferrata) is also available as well as a waterpark for children.
Parish church and cemetery of St Andrew
The parish church of St Andrew is the oldest and biggest church in Lienz. The cemetery opposite is a quiet and beautiful place to stroll through and contemplate, especially after dark when all of the immaculate gravestones are lit up with candles.
The Lienzer Dolomite mountains
The Lienzer Dolomites are the destination for many tourists and walking enthusiasts. The mountains are of similar appearance to the Italian Dolomites and stand almost 3000 meters tall. Endless walking possibilities with plenty of wonderful mountain ‘huts’ serving delicious food and drinks.
St Helene’s church
The church of St Helene can only be reached by foot and makes an excellent excursion for walking enthusiasts. Set high above Lienz at 1,200 meters, this romantic church is one of the oldest in Tyrol. The views of Lienz make this a very worthwhile walk and will not leave you disappointed.
Lake Tristach
Tristacher Lake is a wonderful excursion to relax. This small but incredibly romantic lake is set in the forests just outside of Lienz. The lake makes for a refreshing swim in summer or used for ice skating in winter. A complete walk around the lake takes approximately 1 hour. An excellent hotel/restaurant is located on the west shore of the lake.
Zettersfeld and Hochstein – cable car ride
There are no shortage of mountains to visit, and a trip on a cable car or chairlift to the top of one is an excellent day out! Choose from two ‘house’ mountains – Zettersfeld or Hochstein.
