East Tyrol is a paradise for lovers of white water sports. The River Isel in East Tyrol is one of the largest glacier rivers in the Southern Alps and a favourite among the rafting community. The River Isel is often described as one of the most varied in the whole of Europe.
White water rafting takes place on the River Isel between the stretches of Matrei and Lienz. All difficulty levels are available, from the romantic river cruise up to the ultimate adrenalin kick. In short there are rafting tours suitable for everyone.
Since virtually anyone with basic swimming skills can participate, rafting is by far the most popular type of white water experience.
The rafting season in East Tyrol starts on or around the 15th May and ends at the end of September each year. White water rafting is possible in just about any type of weather and therefore makes for an excellent alternative – should you be experiencing bad weather during your stay.
With four different rafting companies located directly on the River Isel, we can help you choose the one that best suits your needs and abilities.
Tours are available 7 days a week and generally last between two and three hours. Starting times will either be in the morning at 10am or in the afternoon at 2pm.
Safety is paramount and optimally catered for. Qualified and experienced rafting guides will give you the instructions and guidance you need ever mindful that your safety is their priority. You will also be fully equipped with a wetsuit, helmet and life jacket.
Most rafting centres have facilities such as lockers, changing rooms and hot showers. Snacks, hot food and drinks are also available.
