Osttirodler Alpine Coaster-2 | AdventureAustria

The most spectacular alpine coaster in the Alps!

In 2011 Lienz, where AdventureAustria is based, got a brand new exciting tourist attraction.

The so-called ‘Osttirodler’ is an alpine coaster modestly named as the most spectacular alpine coaster in the Alps.

Osttirodler incidentally is a play on words. Osttirol is German for East Tyrol and ‘rodler’ translates to tobogganer.

The Osttirodler has quickly become one of Lienz’s favourite attractions.  It was built at the same time as the new Hochstein cable car which takes skiers and summer guests to the middle station known as Moosalm.  Popular with younger passengers as well as older ones, visitors can easily enjoy a half days’ worth of entertainment at the middle station.  The Moosalm is an excellent starting point for hiking and walks on the Schlossberg Mountain and families will enjoy the small petting zoo and playground.  For the more adventurous there is the high ropes climbing course, one of the biggest of its kind in Tyrol.  Finally the Moosalm restaurant is an ideal place to stop for lunch or refreshments before racing back down the mountain on the Osttirodler!

The Osttirodler claims to be the most spectacular alpine coaster in the Alps as well as one of the longest.  The journey takes passengers on a twisty, bumpy ride through the forests on a track 2.7 km long.  Passengers can travel alone in a ‘toboggan’ or as a pair.  Children under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Along the way, you will get to experience fantastic views of the town of Lienz as well as the Schloss Bruck Castle as you race at speeds of up to 40 kph!  Each sled is attached to two rails and has its own handbrake to control the speed.  Passengers also wear a safety belt.  Journey time is anything between 6 minutes and 10 minutes.

To get to the Osttirodler you must take the gondola up from the Hochstein ski lift.  It is also possible to walk and takes approximately 45 minutes by foot.  After you exit the gondola keep right and follow the signs for a two minute walk to the Osttirodler entrance.

Open daily from May to October and from Christmas to mid-March.
