Austria is well renowned for hosting many of the world’s best football teams in preparations for important competitions including the Euro 2012 hosted jointly by Poland and Ukraine.
In fact both hosting teams, Poland and Ukraine had their training camps in Austria.
Lienz was very proud to host the Polish national team for their training campaign and preparations for Euro 2012. The Polish national team stayed in the excellent 5 star Grandhotel Lienz for 3 weeks and used the facilities of the Dolomiten Stadium in Lienz.
Austria has been the preferred country of choice for some time but this year saw numerous high profile teams such as the current European and World champions Spain. The Czech Republic, England and seven other qualifying teams also set up camp in Austria.
As well as European and World tournaments, Austria is also a preferred training ground for premier teams such as AC Milan, AC Roma, Real Madrid and Arsenal London who all train there on a regular basis.
The quiet setting, higher alpine altitude, modern infrastructure, good food and agreeable climate make it an ideal place for teams to recharge their batteries between seasons and ahead of big events. Austria is also considered an excellent and central European location for access to organising friendly and exhibition matches with other top teams playing and training in Europe at the same time.
During the last 3 years Lienz has had the privilege of hosting such teams as the Cameroon national team, Dynamo Moscow, Poland, Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia) and Dubai – United Arab Emirates, currently in final preparations for the London Summer Olympics. All of them have stayed in the Grandhotel Lienz.
So there you have it, Austria is a world class destination for top sports athletes in preparation for important events such as World Cup and European Cup Football – with Lienz being a popular choice for some of the top international teams.
