Lienz in East Tyrol, where we AdventureAustria is based, only has a very small airport suitable for light aircraft, gliders and helicopters.
There are no immediate airports on our doorstep, nor are there any high speed motorways or freeways directly to Lienz. We don’t see that as any sort of disadvantage – at all. In fact you will see for yourself on arrival, the beautiful state of East Tyrol, is a place of stunning natural beauty unspoilt by large amounts of traffic, freight and industry.
It might take a little longer in getting to Lienz, but the extra drive is well worth it and visitors definitely feel somewhat off the beaten tourist track. Incidentally Lienz does have a train station with connections to the rest of Austria as well as Italy.
So which airports in Austria should you head for if you are coming for a holiday to Lienz?
There are many possibilities….your choice will invariably depend on which airport you are flying from, which airline, suitable flying times and of course flight availabilities.
