Klagenfurt is a city with history. The beautiful old town is dominated by the art of Italian architects. Each Friday and Saturday visitors have the chance to participate in a guided hike through the old town of Klagenfurt. Then you should also visit the Lindwurm (Dragon) Fountain. The dragon holds a heraldic stature in the city of Klagenfurt and features on the city’s coat of arms. The fountain with the dragon, Hercules and the ‘Renaissancegitter’ were completed in 1636.

2. Wahlfahrtkirche Maria Wörth (Pilgrimage church of Maria Wörth)

The famous pilgrimage church is located on a peninsula on the southern shore of Lake Wörthersee. Visitors can be amazed at the Baroque high altar from the 17th century and the statues of the Mother of God and the church’s two patrons. The magnificent pulpit is dated back to 1761. The Gothic baptising font has a baroque stand with symbols of transience.

3. Burgruine Arnoldstein

The once powerful Benedictine monastery remained relatively intact throughout its 800-year history despite multiple fires and robberies. Since 1993, the fortress-monastery has been slowly restored and has in recent years developed into a cultural middle point due to the numerous events taking place there.

4. Hochosterwitz

Hochosterwitz is one of the best preserved medieval castles in Austria and it stands perched perfectly on top of a 175m high rock. The castle was first documented some 1,150 year ago. A footpath leads from the entrance to the top and goes through 14 castle gates before reaching the stronghold. Visitors are guaranteed spectacular views of all directions from the top. Along the way guests can also visit the wonderful gardens as well as the castle church.

5. Klangwelle Velden

A unique spectacle awaits visitors visiting Velden in Wörthersee. A spectacular choreography of water, light, music and lasers lights up the lake at night in a range of unique colours and designs.
